170 ZETEC help needed......Conversion
Hi,
I'm looking for a little help and inspiration from you guys. A friend has decided that he wants to build himself a quick streetable Morris Minor. Looking at various engine conversions the 170 seems to be a good choice, however.....
having little knowledge in the world of conversions i'm/we're asking for a little help.
My pal has a good budget and a very, very good base car so the basics are there. The thing that is causing some head scratching is where or how to source the engine.
There appear to be a number of companies that sell new engines for Kit car conversions with Throttle bodies and a management system for around the 3k mark. Is there a more cost effective way of achieving the conversion than this route? S/H engine and standard management??
Any advice (Of a useful nature
) will be appreciated. If a few pounds can be saved then it will make the car budget go that little bit further.
Thanks.

ST170 motor isn't a Zetec, it also doesn't make the claimed 170ps either saddly. Expect some jiggery pokery to get it in and I wouldn't personally bother retiaing the standard ECU. I'm mid conversion with my brother and we have binned the variable cam timing and have dialled the cams in manually and are running it on a Mondeo ECU as an interim measure.

its a modded zetec. ford just badged it duratec as they didnt want a new car produced a zetec badge. this is the reason ive read but its heart is def zetec
It doesn't have much at all in common with a silvertop as the conversion on our Escort GTi was a total bloody nightmare. So many people said it was a straight forward drop in after a quick sump swap the reality was almost 12 months of mucking about and fabrication.

Only difference between 170 engines and normal black top is betterrods/pistons, better head vvc different inlet and exhaust manifold although you'll probably bin the last 2 although i just cut exhaust manifold half way down and turned round,
Anyway fitting is same as any other rwd zetec conversion, although space will be very tight in a minor, battery il have to go probably have to cut back bulkhead a lot
If was mine id fit an vvc K series
