Default My XR4x4 - New project....

Well I have a new project for myself - a 1990 Sierra XR4x4

It is a little gem and will be restored to better than newall being well.

It has a genuine 35000 miles and plenty of originalpaperwork.

I haven't even had chance to wash it yet so it is as it camefrom the previous owner.

Plans are sort some niggles on it - aircon belt needsreplacing, indicator stalk needs replacing, few other odds and sods but nothingmajor. The paint is swirlmarked and it does have dents where things have fallenon it while it was garaged for around 20 years. I do plan on a full respray aswant it perfect.

The car has no rust from what I can see and has the originaldealer matts, plates, stickers.

Anyway here are the pics I managed to quicly take;

Thanks for looking

Rob

That's pretty cool.

Shouldn't it have ambers on - it doesn't have the black plastic panel between the rear lenses.

Looks to be in superb condition mate, good find

Cheers gents - it has the ambers on as one of the ambers got smashed while it was tucked away and these were apparently to hand.

It came with the following original parts and spares; headunit, rocker covers, rear lights, 1 front amber, alternator, starter motor, HT leads, induction kit

Going to start cleaning it all on Thursday and make a list of bits I want to sort ready for show season

It is completely different to the ST - it isn't that fast but it is a car that puts a smile on my face when I drive it.

Starting to sort some odds and sods on it so will start a thread in the projects section when more gets done

Cheers for all the comments

Cheers for the comments

Been on finding out about any issues;

- vibration above 40mph is present
- sunroof seal has lifted at the front so leaks if parked downhill

Upto now the following have been ordered and booked in for;

- new front discs and pads
- wheels all to be balanced
- sunroof seal to replace
- K&N twin cone induction system
- new intermittent variable switch
- new indicator stalk
- new genuine ford mats
- replacement rocker covers
- replacement inlet

Going to get the replacement rockers and inlet painted silver to tidy up the engine bay

Also invested in aero wipers and brighter bulbs as they were knackered and meant I was near blind.

Did start cleaning the engine but haven't started on the paintwork yet;

Will start a resto thread when I come back from my weeks work in Germany

Very nice very rare now as original as that
love my xr4x4
Also IIRC some of the changeover to 90 spec cars didn't have the rear black section between the lights when they had dark rear lights, I saw an original car being broken 2 week ago and that was the same as yours

love 2.9 xr4x4s

had many

above comment about them coming with smoke lights and no centre is nonsense

the early pre 90 ones like yours with thick side mouldings only came with ambers
and post 90 cars which just looked like gls came with smoked lights,number plate surround,adj steering column etc

there was no half measures,someone has fitted them

This originally did have all ambers - got them still.

The lad I bought it off fitted the smoked rears and clears to the front but also gave me all the original parts as well. 1 of the front ambers was smashed so once a new pair are sorted they will be going back on.

It also has an original tape player if I ever wanted to put that back in.

Cant wait to get this work trip out the way as got loads to crack on with.
