Default 2006 2.2 Estate rear pads

Hi, in middle of changing my rear discs and pads (genuine Ford parts) The one of rear pads is chamfered at both ends the other one chamfered at the leading edge. I have assumed that the shimmed pad goes on inside against the piston, however Haynes manual says shimmed pad goes on outside? the old shimmed pad was fitted against the piston so was planning to refit them the same. Which way is correct?
