Default Failed MOT due to emmisions

Hi guys,

looking forward to participating in what looks to be a very busy community. however straight to the point...

My 2010 model Ford Fiesta Zetec failed its first ever MOT (obvcourse 3 year old car dont require MOT's) and to make things worst ive only had it 5 Months

My MOT emmisions results from 2 garages are as below :

max for CO should be 0.20%
max for HC should be 200ppm

GARAGE 2 (After bottle of Catcleaner)

Fast Idle Test
CO 0.30%
HC 348 ppm

Second fast idle test
CO 0.67%
HC 314 ppm

GARAGE 1

Fast Idle Test
CO 0.52%
HC 393ppm
Second fast idle test
CO 0.93%
HC 216ppm

Anybody advise on the steps to take to try resolve this isue?

I was told it could be the oxygen sensor (if anybody knows a rough price for one?)

regards

craig

It is always difficult to judge what is going on without further information.
The extra information would be the CO2 and O2 levels measured and the lambda number.
Based on the above figures I would say a defective catalyst.
Any fault codes present in the engine ecu?

What's the history? Any problems with sensors/spark plugs/coils?

Hi oldford,

sorry i only gave the results it failed it, all below results passed,

Lambda between (0.97 - 1.03)
CO Max - 0.30%
Garage test 2 (after catcleaner)
Fast idle test
Lambda 0.98%

second fast idle
Lambda 0.98%

Natural idle test
CO 0.29%

Garage test 1

Fast idle test
Lambda 0.970%

second fast idle
Lambda 0.970%

Natural idle test
CO 0.08%

No codes on dash, i think a gonna need a diagnostics £70
