Sure it's been asked many times but I can't seem to find a definitive answer
I have a stage 3 1990 sapphire that I'm restoring and want to take the power and reliability to the next level.
Currently running dark greens with rs500 cooler arp stud and nut head bolts group a head gasketand the head ported.
I want to upgrade to wasted spark and have options for anti lag both I'm sure the l6 ecu could be upgraded to manage but at what cost?
Would it be cheeper and more flexible to go for stand alone management and of so what are your recommendations?

Thanks for the reply. I can see what your saying but it doesn't really answer the question in terms of what option is more beneficial, both in terms of power but more importantly (to me) costs?
My opinion is by the time you have up graded the webber ecu and put on all the bits I.e wasted spark launch control anti lag had it chipped and mapped its not far off just fitting some thing like vipec!
Then it's ready to cope with what ever you do to the engine

My current saph is running autronic. It is so much nicer to drive than my last saph which had custom maps on std management. Peak power may not be improved but what ive noticed the most is throtle response and economey is much better with the autronic.
You say you want to take your car to the next level. Aftermarket ecu's like autronic and vipec will keep you happy for many many years, no matter what mods you decide to make in the years to come. You only need to do it once.

wasted spark for the l6 is a £400 job on it's own.... then there's mapping.
something like omex, which i went for, has wasted spark, launch control, anti lag, closed loop etc all there to make use of and you can buy it and a semi assembled loom for sub £700 if you shop wisely. the only thing that lets the 600 down imo is it's lack of sequencial injection which the standard ecu does have so going to batch injection from sequencial is a slight step backwards but it doesn't out weigh the benefits for me.
as has already been said though, decide who is going to do the mapping and perhaps talk to them as they each seem to have a system they prefer.
