Hi, my name is Nei Freitas and I live in São Paulo/Brasil.
I bought this Escort MK4 on february and my plan is to mount a "light rat look".
The engine is a Volkswagen AP 1.8 by Autolatina.
Autolatina was a union of Ford and VW in the 90 decade and produced Escort, Verona, Apollo, Gol, Pointer with shared components, like engines, plataforms, etc...

Is it the same engine as fitted to european golfs?? Or specific to south america?. Would be great to fit the vw 1.8 20v turbo engine in this escort.

No, its specific to the south america.
This european golf engine's equiped the Escort XR3 models and Gol GTS, named 1.8S
In the XR3 the gearbox are from VW Jetta!
Was produced the same period (90's).

Wow that engine looks weird in there lol.It looks like a mk3 golf gti engine.
