Default BJ the Sliver PH1 Renault Sport Clio 172 (frog content)

Was origanally called BJA but when you say BJA quickly it just sounds like BJ anyway so its now called BJ.

Picked the car up in October 11 with a snapped cambelt and a couple of other problems.

The Orignal plan was to do it up and flog it but that did happen.

Once I decided to keep it the aim with this car was to build a car that could do long disctances comftabley but was also above avaerge round a track- An Ideal Nurburgring car.

The first spec was:-

Fully Ployflex Bush kit
Every ball joint replaced
Genuine Renault Cup dampers
Eibech Sportline Lowering Springs
Eibech camber bolts
Yokohama Prada Spec 2 tyres
Full stainless exhasut with silenced de-cat (very quite system)
Clio 197 cams
MWM ported Inlets
MWM Map
Raised rev limmit to 7800rpm
ARP Rod bolts

Heres some pictures:-

I was really really happy at the compromise between comfot and handling. The cup dampers and Eibech Sportlines are a fantastic fast road set up.

Next batch of work was this:-

Started with a 2nd hand Whiteline rear anti roll bar.

Then I replaced the steering rack mounting bushes. These are starting to become a problem on many 172's. They don't affect the grip as such, just make the steering feel really vague.

I got my hands on an exhaust manifold from the Clio 182 which gives much better torque in the mid range.

They are a total nightmare to fit as the whole subframe has to come off to get them in.

I then had to make my own custom link pipe to link it up to a 172 exhaust system.

I've started stripping the car down to fit the RS2 as well.

I have removed all the air con junk and and just waiting for the delete kit to arrive to delete the pump.

Got my air con delete kit on

And install an RS2 Inlet to get some more power

And this is its new power graph.

I also decided to fit some Cup wishbones to give it some more castor.

So the poor Ph1 has been neglected of late.

After a little bit of other entousisatic driving round a roundabout in Milton keynes, I crashed. Nothing major, Just a bit of bent suspention and set the side airbag off.

Anyway, that car developed some other annoying faults, Notting major, just a spilt Pas hose and the sump gasketed started leaking. so i decided to take the car off the road and sort the little problems out to bring its car back up to top condition.

I managed to find myself a Clio DCI (Project thread coming soon) to use as a daily which meant I could up the spec on BJ as it was no longer needed for use everyday.

I sold the RS2 and the 197 cams and have brought some AT power throttle bodies, Some Catcam 438's and an Omex ECU.

I composed a list of everything i wanted to get done which looks something like this-

Replace rear beam
Get geo done
Shim rear beam
Get geo done
Remove engine
Fix sump gasket
Run new power steering pipes
Replace power steering pump
Fit 438 cams and new belt kit
Fit ITB's
Fit new gearbox
Wire in Omex
Fit Meggy injectors
Book dyno and map
Get wheels painted
Replace passenger seat
Cut wire to airbag light
Fit new steering wheel and boss
Fit spacers to drop column
Fit aero catches
Fit 2 new drive shafts
Take for MOT

Today the work started

Got a load of parts powdercoated. Looks much better than stained oilly Ali.

Had the sump cleaned and drilled and Tapped an SPA oil temp gauge sender into it.

I put the 438's in today and replaced the rocker cover bolts for some stainless steel cap heads to keep it looking clean and bolted the bodies on.

Quick little update,

pushed the car outsise and steam cleaned out the engine bay.

Put the cambelt and all the other bits and bobs back on the engine ready for it to go in.

Then

Then dropped the engine in the whole

Looking good! What's the purpose of the rear anti roll bar then? I thought they had a rear beam instead of being independant?

i found the answer to this. although it appears as a solid rear beam its actually a torsion beam so it twists.
