3drs too old for fast ford??
i was thinking about this the other day and wondered when will a 3dr become too old for fast ford and move on to classic ford? is there an age criteria for both mags?? i dont read classic ford so maybe they are already i dunno.
they are doing something right i agree. but was just curious when do they become a classic. i first bought fast ford about 17 yrs ago and they were as popular then as now

Thing I find weird is the fast ford world we know and love is built mainly around the rs turbo and the sierra cosworth yeah, and neither performance ford or fast ford have a project rst/cosworth, Neil has the red track car and that black fez in fast ford but you'd think they'd have some sort of cosworth is there somewhere (to b fair I haven't read performance ford in a while so I could bespeaking utter shite!)
the clue is in the mags title's, the cosworth is always going to be a performance/fast ford for its life, mags will come and go but the cars status wont
The cosworth is the biggest name ford had / ever will when it comes to fast I'd say there will always be a place for them as when it comes down to it they are also the fastest and most tune able fords
.Its easy to quote silly horsepower figures & my cars mega fast in the old days you would be taken to Brunters & there the bullshit stopped.
Both PF & FF are no longer interested in Performance . Their will be no more Daddy Thrashes to find out what these cars are capable of. Its now inflated horsepower figures with no graphs & no against the clock timing. The 'Fast' & 'Performance' part of these mags are already dead.
The Cossie has had its day you go to shows now & see rows & rows of the modern rs's that will never be worthy of the Cosworth badge its why i no longer attend. Perfectly kept examples like Matts 3dr are still worth a punt but the nonsense thats talked about cars in these mags & then not backed up with facts is a joke. But then the average punter believes the bullshit so i suppose the mags wont change.
How do you know they are fast if the mag dont time them anymore

I discussed this with both editors when I had my S1 in FF and CF a couple of years back. There was no 25 year rule in existence and the decision on which cars to include was purely down to the editorial team and in their opinions which cars would help sell their magazines to their readers.
When the CF issue came out I was especially disappointed to see my S1 cut from the group shot used on the cover. CF is most certainly aimed at the older models and in general it's readers don't like cars with plastic (arches, bumpers etc).
Wish I still had that car but after 25 years of ownership it was time to move on.
Cheers, John

PS. Maybe Dan will confirm or otherwise.

You're either trying to stir it up, or have forgotten about our many conversations.
Name me one featured car in the last 12 months that didn't have the spec to back up the claimed figures.

As for the 3-door - it will always be part of Fast Ford, and will never be too old. There is no formal agreement on who features what, bit try not to tread on each others toes too much. We have a loose 1985-onwards rule, but there may be the odd exception.

But it's a fair point, and we're currently looking at increasing the content of that part of the mag with a wider selection of cars from other contributors.
Fair question by the OP and perfectly answered by Dan BUT let's not forget, Cosworth is not the be all and end all of the Ford Performance scene. Ive got one but it doesn't make me any different from other Ford Performance Owners.
Don't think the MK1 and MK2 Escort or Cortina owners would be happy to see a Sierra in their Mag but a lot put the engine in ????????

Nice. Of all the people on here you're the last person I'd have expected to have come out with this bullshit. You and I have talked at length, on numerous occasions about why we CAN'T time cars. You and I have also discussed about how to time your car, so you know that we WANT to do it.

Hi Dan
As the Editor of FF No disrespect, But reading that reply I think you are coming across as very unprofessional IMO!
I think you need to chill out a bit, Reads like your very angry indeed!

Hi Dan, we all no budget is a problem in this day and age but when you look through the mags fast fleet and see Jamie's old nails that want scrapping its very poor to be honest. Grudge match was a good read and its a shame we don't see more of that side of things, all just my opinion though
as i've just seen this thread, there have been plenty of words about the 85 threashold with the only cross over being the sierra, but not the rs versions
as for timing, it's all elf and safty stuff so no more brunters where it's not worth it for 5 sales or the like
you have to be able to find the same place with the same conditions to time stuff on and pf used to use that tratk to beat the stig thing which was about as ood as you could get
but i get both so i'm not missing out on anything
if anything, cf has a lot more practical stuff and the wrods are smaller so they can fit more in, so i suppose it's all about catering to who buys the mags

As Dan says, there are no rules as such, and the rough guideline has always been around 1986 - or plastic bumpers!
The 3-door Cosworth is becoming a classic, and therefore wil begin to creep into CF along with RS1600i Escorts and S1 RS Turbos.

Cosworth isnt the biggest name Ford have ever had!
RS is the biggest name Ford have ever had,Cosworth as we all know is simply the name of the engine builders,ok built a bloody good engine and still envolved in engine building in a big way, but RS is Fords legacy.

Not unlike most of the features in the mag aswell it is almost like future have hired some of the old maxpower feature writers in the last few months ! The mags been full of great cars this last year but the write ups are just utter shite

And its super smooth tarmac unlike Brunters.

Good thanks mate, I'm settling in nicely! It's already got me wanting another Cosworth though but I'm not letting the Cortina go after all this hard work
Cheers! Only recently swapped over so not many know yet
And yes, the Cortina will be staying as my project car on the mag. Just depends if I get another one to join it
