Can you get cracks in alloys fixed?
Hello,
As said, can you get cracks in alloys fixed?
Had my tyre done today and the bloke showed me a crack in the alloy and he said it will be ok for now as he has put glue init but will need a new one soon.
Now i should of asked him but i never, can you get them repaired? If so how much?
Cheers.

Hi mate. I work as an alloy wheel refurber so have some good knowledge here, lol. Long and the short, yes, you can fix it! Your best bet is to find the most reputable ally welder in your area, there will be a few good ones I should imagine. Then have the wheel off, tyre off, whip it down to him and he will literally run a bead of weld over the crack and seal it. Your aim is to stop air leaking, the crack getting any bigger and to slightly strengthen the wheel back up. £50-ish is the going rate (cash).
You can get companies that just specialise in it do will strip the tyre, weld crack, tyre back, balance (essential to have it balanced after a weld repair!) then put it back. They charge more like £70-£100, so maybe better doing it my way to save £50 if you can be bothered to muck about and lose the time.
Last thing, the wheel will never be as strong as it was before the crack, regardless of quality of weld, so bear that in mind and another good pothole could cause the wheel to literally snap all the way along the weld. Cheap fix and rush it (90% go on forever) or you could be that unlucky sod...
p.s. get it checked for any buckling too or the crack will be the least of your worries if it's not round anymore

Cheers for the reply! I think ill see what i can get second hand for about the same money but a brand new alloy is £170. Unless i got it fixed on the cheap for £40 or less i think it might be to much messing about to get done.
Cheers for the help!
Cheers for the help!
Always an option the 2nd hand route! Just make sure it's in good nick or it's good money after bad!
If you call about, sure you'll get it sorted for a drink by someone
There's some decent hearted people still about somewhere I'm sure!
Good luck
