a friend of a friend car has failed its MOT with supposedly play in the steering rack. its an old Corsa B
just want to make sure she's not being ripped off but i wasnt sure exactly how its tested? and what it can fail on.
how much play is too much then? testers discretion?

Corsa's are renowned for having play in the rack ends so needs to be considered as excessive before warranting an mot fail.
I never used to fail them unless the rack was really bad, pass and advise !

funny you mention that they are known for it, someone else has said the same thing.
i suspect the garage is looking for work and failed it, i wonder if they'll quote to replace the whole rack
she's going to bring it round for me to take a look at, if needed i'll get it mot'd at another garage myself

"rack" cannot be failed as they cannot physicaly see the play in the rack itself, only by free excessive movement turning the steering wheel left to right
if not then more than probebly rack ends but again they cannot be seen due to the gaitors
grey area this, pass and advise normally
