Default PF Mountainbikers - Show us your hacks

After my small speeding hiccup I dug my old hack out.

Unfortunately time hadn't been kind and with MAG21 seals no longer anywhere close to available new. It needed a few tweeks.

Now managed to get a nice Specialized Stumpjumper frameset and am loving being back in the saddle

The old bug is biting hard as I've already ordered a new set of wheels, hydraulic disc brakes etc....

My new bike is a marlin malt 3. Reduced from £900 to £550 so I swooped. Cracking bike for the price.

Looks well Ajc for the money.
I need to get another bike. Boooooooo!!!
Washed my coyote yesterday and give it some winter tlc as it's in daily use.
I've noticed the frames cracking round the seatpost weld!!!
Bummer, £500 quid mountain bike and it's lasted 2 road use only!!!
Any suggestions on where to start looking for another?

My On One 456 on the left, Hope finishing kit, gets some good mileage in. Try to ride a minimim of 150 miles a week.

The other bike is a mates Alpine 160.

Want a frame? look at On One for a frameset. Or a full build for £700 for an Inbred.

Thanks, its taken a while to build it up but I now own the Fat Chances I always wanted when I was a kid.

Do you have your old Mag 21's still? I can tell you where to get some seals and I even have the original Rock Shox tool kit to replace them.

I dont really "get" the retro MTB thing, but I was never into it bitd I guess, I like old BMXs mind

Only got into MTB a couple years ago, used to do a fair bit of BMX back in the day but got lazy and fat in my 20s tbh!

Got a hardtail Haro first, cant find any pics but was nothing amazing, then built up my first full sus, a Mongoose Canaan Frame and various bits, was a tiny bike (I am 6:3) loads of fun but I really needed a bigger bike, something that was highlighted to me doing a Gravity Endura event this year .

Heres the Mongoose:

And under me at Hopton:

Decided on a bigger and more travel bike, wanna get into uplift days next, Mondraker Dune R with a few bits changed, temp brakes while I wait on Hopes, now has Renthal Chainring and will have the Renthal Duo Stem and New Fat Bar Lites when they arrive!

And under me at Chicksands (slightly blurry pic lol)

Nice, what hopes have you gone for?

Using the V2's on my hard tail with sintered pads. No worrying about stopping ever.

Not actually ordered them yet but think I am decided on the M4 with the Tech levers, apperantly a bit lighter than the V2s? Going for 203 up front and 180 back so should do the job!

With the spec of your bike, I would go for either the V4 (new upgrade from the V2 or V2's tbh. Also going by your weight.

I'm 15.5 st and they stop me on a dime.

Pics of my daily, sorry about pic quality.
Dunno if to source a replacement frame or splash out on a new bike???
The coyote needs new forks as they've seized up too.
Shame as it's got half decent gear on it.

And the crack which is getting worse!!!

Only 13st, 6ft tall. Never expected the frame to crack!!!

I agree it should not fail like that but that's quite a long seat post you've got in it and if you tend to sit back on the seat that's alot of pressure on the frame right where it's cracked.... looks like the paint is also cracking on the down tube underneath the top tube as well.. Just looks like the whole frame is flexing in that area and it's slowly weakening the frame..

How far down inside the frame is the seat post ?

When you replace it maybe go for the next frame size up so you don't need such a massively long seat post..

I'd wager money on that crack being caused by you running your seat post too high. Only time I've ever seen frames crack like that is due to that, so you can't really blame the frame...

Also, one of my bikes and me after a muddy Rheola...

Looking at the crack I'm wondering how much seat post is going into the frame?

Had the first seat from when I was 19st till 16st, 6ft in height on a 20 inch frame. Rode near 8k on that seat.

2nd seat had since May 2012, now weigh 15.5st, frame is 18inches.

Daily commute is 7 miles each way, of a weekend I can ride anything from 40 miles to 80 miles.

Use a set of padded inner pants for anything over 40 miles.

No Problem Andy, I use the Cromo railed one. For the price you can't beat it.

Largest ride here...

http://app.strava.com/activities/12802762

However I did use slicks and ate alot. Phone battery went dead and didn't show the other 10 mile ride home. Epic ride once you hit 80 miles thinking "Done it!!"

Good effort Phil.

I went out for the first time in 10 years on Sunday and did 8.5 mile in 54 mins lol.

The other half was with me, she stopped every 5 minutes but I loved it

Bel Air in general, all have the same cusioning tbh.

For the extra price/cost the cro mo suited me.

For weight loss I upgraded parts like stem to a Hope, BB to Hope, brakes to Hope. Thats where the shitting thing got expensive. For a hard tail it costs me around £3k, that includes the full bike and servicing.

It is however my main transport to keep me fit, all the upgrades have been for ease of service, plus strong. Shame the rear wheel gets battered as it gets proper abuse.
