Default clutch question, escort 55 van

gents;

friend of a friend has got a w plate 1.8d escort van, he said the clutch biting point is only an inch off the floor.

before i get to look at it, are these cable or hydraulic?
if cable is there any adjustment on the cable? if not what's the likely cause, something like a strectched cable?

never worked on one myself so any help appreciated

It's a cable mate, but it should be adjustable on one that late. Think its an alen key under the pedal.

I had nackered clutch symptoms on my van, (the clutch was very worn when I got it out but not fooked) so...

I changed the clutch and it was worse!

I changed the pedal quadrent and it was no different!

I changed the cable and it was awesome! The pedal is now so light I dare say it is as
light as a petrol engined Escort van! Super smooth gear change probably helped down to a full box of fresh gear oil too!

Happy days haha!!

cheers;

i actually had a look at it last week for him; the cable is fooked, there's a tapered rubber gromit on the cable to prevent the cable from being pulled through the clutch arm but this is missing.

as a temp bodge i've cut down a big nut and put a slot in it to stop it from happening.

i'll probably end up buying the van off him anyway cos he dont want much for it and it needs a few odds & sods doing to it
