Alloys to Steel wheel query
Hi,
I'm considering buying a set of winter tyre's and intend to put them on new steel wheels and attach to a 2010 MK2 Ford Focus Zetec 100 ( 5 door, 1.6 ). The car currently has the manufacture fitted alloys on. The wheel size is 205/55/R16. Can I use the existing wheel nuts when installing the new steel wheels. I have read in my manual and it states not to install steel wheel nuts on alloys but it doesn't mention anything about the reverse.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

What steel wheels are you putting on? Normal steel or "fake alloy" ones which look like anorexic steel ones with wheel trims to make the alloy effect?
Only reason I ask is that alloy nuts will go on a steel wheel, but the "fake alloy" ones normally use a different nut again due to how the wheel trim sits.

Last year I took off my Focus 18 inch titanium spec alloy wheels and fitted some 16 inch steel wheels with winter tyres. I had to buy second hand steel wheel nuts as I could not get the new wheel plate covers on with the existing nuts, they stuck out too much. Just as a foot note when I took my winter tyres off after last winter, I re fitted them with 16 inch normal road tyres. The roads being so pot holed these days and having bent an alloy on a previous car, I found the ride is so much more comfortable, cheaper tyres and more importantly it appears to have an improved the MPG.
I believe the rolling radius has stayed very similar as the GPS on the Tom Tom it still gives the Focus speedo as 5 mph higher than the GPS.

Thanks for your responses.
I am putting them on normal steel wheels. I have considered the tyre storage option but its an ongoing cost so I thought the steel wheel option was probably best.
Thanks again for the advice.
