Xr4x4 help

Iv got the chance of a xr4x4 on a g reg 2.9 body wants work but prob a full paint tho to make it rite but it's had a new engine put in and it runs and drives ok but there is black smoke out of it .any ideas ???

Black would indicate a fueling problem
Airflow sensors maybe

As said, deffo running rich. Have a look at the throttle position sensor as well, they're known to play up. Best bet is to get a fault code reader on it and check the codes.
