Default diesel advice needed please.....

Right, im in the process of buying a new car, im sick of bombing around in £300 bangers so a friend has sorted out some finance at his place, I've pin pointed the focus range, specifically the 57/08 1.6tdci models, cheap tax, cheap insurance and what looks like great economy......but.....im reading an awful lot of turbo failure stories and dpf/egr problems.
I have a friend who can remove both egr/dpf and remap the car, as for the turbos it seems to be restricted oil ways and poor oil change/quality of oil. Could i prevent this by putting new pipes on and then regular oil changes? Anyone had any experience or can anyone recommend an alternative car thats roughly the same size and is as cheap to tax, insure and run?? Any help muchly appreciated.

Modern diesels certainly require good quality oil that is kept topped up and changed when it should be. Beemers and the VAG stuff - alike - the higher the BHP the more it relies on its oil, and the quicker you'll know about it when the lubrication isn't as it should be.

Warming them up properly first thing and not switching them off straight away when the engine has been worked hard goes a long way too.
