My mate had this before top gear had it and belive me it's had a hard life, he used to rag it silly everywhere sideways like it was an old scrapper (which it would've been to him compared to the cars he owns/owned).
Nowhere near a £9k car.

sounds about right! i thought that was the only way to drive a cossi

It is never a £10,000 car , JC bought for £5000 so you could maybe added £1500 on that as its appeared on TV... I personely wouldnt be bothered by that but some are.
Totally standard Saff in a good colour, interior looks excellent, looks very clean throughout, pretty low mileage...
Price may be a touch excessive, but £4k overpriced? Really?
If someone showed me that advert without a price and without the fact being known that it was ever on TV, I'd day it was probably worth £8k.

No where near £8k mate, you've been smoking crack with the person who is selling it lol
No mention of top gear wash polish decent pictures with a decent advert and that would go for 7.5k imo rare colour nice and standard looks a clean car to me, as for it being abused haven't they all at some point? Do agree he's a greedy cunt asking that for it though!
it has 77k on the clock... is that not very low for a car of that age. If it has the history to back it up then advertise at 8 and settle for anything over 7.
Lets be honest, Mr Clarkson got a bargain with that car if the miles are correct and the condition is as described dont you think?

Funny how most say its not worth the money yet it looks a far better car than 90% advertised on here and on pistonheads for the same sort of wonga
I think everyone needs to accept that what sort of car you can buy now for 6/7k compared to a saff , that a saff needs to be somthing quite special to be worth over 4/5k
People keep telling me saffs are going up in value ,,Rubbish , people are asking more but are they getting it , NO, i see the same cars listed on ebay and advertised on pistonheads etc week after week after week and until they put a realistic price they will never sell
The only saffs that are doing strong money are mega low miles MINT condition standard cars
Modded threashed bodged shit wont sell for good money

Actually that is incorrect, the Sierra scored the highest when it went through the examination. It was deemed to be in pretty good shape with everything working, no visible signs of rust on the outside either. The engine was completely standard and as far as I am concerned, every cosworth gets its neck ringed on a regular bases.

The M3 Evo (which is what I owned at the time) was dangerous lol

Was worrying they were going to be too expensive and considering i may have to buy a shell and bits ASAP to get a donor ID.

Ok so it's been said it's been driven hard (JC certainly did in any case) but then show me a Cosworth that hasn't, this is the very reason one buy's a performance car.
Couple this to the fact it's had it's 15 minutes of fame does mean it will command a higher price, than that of a comparable example.

This ^^, why shouldn't an original example such as that not be worth as much as any other comparable example.

The comparable examples are overpriced to start with! Thats the problem nowadays! People slap on any price and expect it to sell! They still have the car 3 months later due to a high asking price and other sellers think because that one has a high price tag they can command the same!

go spend 6/7k on a evo or scooby and see what it's worth in 2 years time. people aren't buying saphs to go out to mcdonalds and show off with it being the fastest thing on the road because it isn't anymore by a long way! people spend decent money on a decent saph because they aspire to own something with a bit of heritage and will hold it's money if not increase in value if looked after right.
i agree with mike, if you didn't have someone on here telling you it's had it's head kicked in daily (find me a rs that hasn't) and if it hadn't been on tv i think it'd still find it's way to being advertised for 7/8k. if it sells at that price is a different story all together.

Never a £9.5 k car,I'm thinking a £6k car personally,and since when was flint a rare colour???
Looks alright but the "age related marks" storyline can mean pretty much anything, may need a full repaint to put right and as for it being one of the "best standard examples" out there I think that's also a bold statement.
A lot of people's opinions on cars values vary like the wind, when their selling it's a top money car when their buying it's overpriced.
I'd say any saph with t&t is gonna be £4k plus, clean ones with history,£5k plus, really good examples with say 70/80k £6k plus then it's got to be something pretty unique beyond that.
3drs have the rarity value, doubt you can get anything worth driving below £10k unless it's a reshell or has a bad past/big problems.
Escos starting at £10k are pretty rare right now, they seem to be fetching way more but IMO are the best looking ford ever and have a ton of presence, I'd love one, a lot more than a rs500 but that's IMO.
Mk1/2 escort 2drs are off the scale, I know nothing about them other than I could never justify one over an escos.

[quote=john_p_b;6073422]i'm honestly amazed you of all people come out with a statement like that considering you're one of the people that have pushed the price of a 500 up into millionare territory.
Oh so its my fault rs500 prices are so high

Im quite amazed how you think its possible for anyone to raise prices
The buyers are the people who raise values of cars , if nobody pays the asking price then values dont rise
Im very interested to know how and why you feel i have influenced the prices ?

Exactly,my guess is the majority of folk buying these are for investment purposes rather than to actually own a 500.
With banks paying 0.0000000001% interest classic cars are looking a good bet for investments, provided you have secure storage etc it's a relatively cheap way of looking after your investment if you never use the thing.
To give you your dues Paul, you have gotten a lot better with your pricing over the last few years and generally say it as it is.

Only made for around 3 years and only on Saph Cosworth's, XR4x4 TT's and 2000 E models (Which were two tone anyway)
A good original Saph is a 9K + car, I know people in the club who have theirs valued at this, and they aren't nothing special, just clean and unmolested.

People believe the hype, simple, 1 car sold for a stupid price, enough people started harping on about them being massive investments and the price rocketed, you're a buisness man paul, you're not that neive that you think prices can't be influenced by respected people in any walk of life.
Which is where my frustration comes with people constantly slagging saphs off as being 4/5k cars, if people hear it enough from the right people then the market will have to fall inline as people believe what they read!
