Just man up and cut it. You can always worry about putting it back later if need be.

Just take your time with it. I'm about to do this on mine and while i've got to admit it's not a job i'm really looking forward to, it should be simple enough. Just be accurate with measuring etc.

I did what you want I left my original mounts bought some Mk2 escort saddle brackets ( eBay ) trimmed them a little sat it on the axle and welded them on, the originals make it perfect to line the others up.

Another van I had bought the guy cut his originals off and welded them underneath but he didn't do it right so the wheels stuck out on one side but not the other.

Either way is fine just make sure its on the right place, for extra brucie bonus add an extra leaf spring each side and it will stiffen the back end up a treat.

Pm me if you want some custom gaz adjustable rear shocks for the van

If it's a beam axle on leaf springs can you not stick lowering blocks between axle and spring with longer U bolts?

That's how it was done in the old days.

Ideal, I've ordered a pair. Thanks for your help. I might be in touch about the shocks

no, the springs are above the axle as standard so fitting blocks would lift it
