What base car to turn into a track car
So me and a mate fancy a go at building a track car, although no car has been decided on so I'm turning to you guys..
What car do you recommend as the base to work with money no object it isn't so I'm saying £1000 max for the car then £2000 getting it into shape.
I was thinking of a st170 and my mate was thinking of a fiesta mk5 with puma engine.. so any ideas chaps

Any really mate there as good as the work you put into them i think, i got a MK5 RS2000 for £400 to play with while i sorted engine/elec stuff out on the Evo and love it keeps up with the later stuff no problem! I just stripped it, AVO coilovers, FRS brakes job done and all for less than a clutch on the Evo

Ive gone 306 GTI6, good handling and engine to start with and cheap as chips to buy
Should be quite reliable and show up some more expensive machinery round the corners

Seen the Clio tis what made me think, my mate is saying fiesta as he has one sat about,
Saxo and 106 to him are too small bit the way I look at it the fiesta is the same size.
Any odd ball cars suggestions out there ?

got an e36 318is that i'm taking way much time to sort out here....... not a great amount of power to weight but it's mainly for my son...... ( yeah right..
) to get used to rwd on a track before we go back to the ring...
without a doubt a saxo VTR is your best bet. VTS/106GTi 16v's are slightly more expensive to buy and insure if you can fork out for it, but only slightly faster and got to remember a VTR 8v lump can be bought for like £50-100 and is bullet proof anyway.

from that website you can essentially rebuild the entire car with uprated components.
no car i know off is as cheap to modify to such a standard and few cars are as much fun on a tight track for similar money.
most track days are full of them, and people just like you on small budgets.
