generally, these are fairly expensive, and i want to measure some paint thickness. (sad as that sound) this is a very cheap alternative. What are peoples thoughts?

I don't think it would be accurate. Are you measuring so you can machine polish a panel or something? If this machines gets it wrong and you polish through the paint it needs painting. Is it worth the risk?

yeah, you got it in one! i want to machine polish a car that has some serious swirls but im suspicious the paint is very thin on the tops of the wings and some other places.

You need to get one and compare readings with the better type on the same panel or the test strips that come with all good PTG.

I cant imagine them being very good tbh.
