Mate of mine has two small turbo escossies and has had them chipped by a well known tuner to 285 ponies. One car is fine and the other smokes.
The car only has 20k on the clock. We were gonna start swopping bits between cars to try and eliminate the problem. We've already checked the chip is seated correctly.
now somewhere i read said it could have been the MAP sensor, but can't find the article to confirm.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Fozy it could be loads of things, as the boost has been turned up, and the small turbo works hard evern on a standard car it could be the seal on the shaft, take hoze off the front of turbo and see if you can move the end of shaft from side to side. Also it could be valve steam seals or worse it could be a piston ring like what happened to my car also with the same SHIT convershion from GGR !! mine started smokeing on the way home from GGR and they didnt want to evern look at the car when i phoned them !! I had one of there 305 engine killers.
Hope brett and shaz are ok and tell them to come all to the pub

My observation is that all high powered Cosworth engines smoke a bit - haven't seen that in other 2.0T engines.... maybe every high powered car I have seen was broken?

the smoke is dark grey/black so i thought that it was overfuelling, but still not sure.
Will pop round and give bret the info dunc, but it wasn't done by GGR the conversion.
Will also tell them to pop up the crossroads for a pint

It is extremely unlikely that it is overfuelling on a EEC 4 Cossy.
9/10 as Duncan said it is the turbo. A 360 bearing will cure this problem for ever.
Valve stem oil seals is unlikely as well as this is a part that wears out progressively, and not due to a sudden power increase.
Rings? Maybe, but the later blocks have a different type of oil cooling, spray bar, and pump set up, meaning usually they are never a problem upto 350bhp. They could fail of course but it'll need some investigation

Doesnt sound good m8 so to save your self money in the long run get it checked out
but it wouldnt suprise me if it was the turbo there near enough on the limit in standard trim on the small turbo's
But best thing is get it in the shop and let the expets get there hands dirty
