Went to look at a 2007 focus st for the mrs as a daily and only fault I could find was it had orange peal all over the car is this standard for st orange was not that bad but just noticed it cheers

Orange peel paint is pretty much the norm on modern cars. Seen some shocking examples of it.

Panel by panel, bit by bit i flatted back a heavily orange peeled Civic Type R in black with 2000 grit wet and dry and then used a rotary and wool pad to bring it back up, an effort but worth it.
