Default Time Attack Anglesey Report (pics etc.)

Just got back home after 4 long days at Anglesey Track, where John Coles (johnyjn) and I gave a lending hand to Ronnie Amis' team. Being local boys, we thought it would prove beneficial to the team that if anything should go wrong and parts or whatever were needed, we were the boys that could sort it. Unfortunately for Ronnie and the team, the proverbial hit the fan early and we got to work.

Thursday night consisted of a lot of beer, Barry's BBQ (Ron's dad), selling PF like the big issue and generally just made sure everything was ready for the track day on Friday, hosted by the Mitsubishi Lancer Register (MLR). I took mine around on Friday, as did Ronnie. He had the plan of getting accustomed to the track again, and I just went out for a laugh. Ronnie even took my car out for a spin, with me in the passenger seat. Nice to see the difference a car makes with a less-manic driver behind the wheel Ronnie's a cracking a driver in virtually any car, very calm and collected individual with some very gutsy driving.

The weather was amazing on Friday...

We slept in the garage with minimal spooning antics

Our cars ready to go for a spin Friday...

As mentioned earlier, a problem occured mid way through the day when Ronnie returned to the pits with a dragging nearside wheel.

After taking everything apart, we found out that the wheel bearing had completely collapsed. Plus the added bonus of so much heat the whole hub and it's components were treated to, a few other bits were needed as well. So true to our word, John and I nicked their van and made our way back towards Caernarfon to raid more of John's spare parts. On the way we got in touch with everyone we knew around the area who could sort us out a new bearing. With the bearing due for pick up by 15:00, we got started with grinding away at the spare hub and picked up a few spare Group A bolts just in case.

Just to point out, whilst angle grinding I sacrificied my favourite rugby shirt for this cause and nobody cared....you trully are a right bunch of caaaaaaaants!!!!

We returned in time to find Doug and the boys with the remains of the old bearing....

The new bearings were a little late arriving, so we tried the car out on the existing bearing in the spare hub, which wasn't the worst example to be honest.

A worried Ron

Everything seemed good, so we got drinking again

We ordered 2 bearings, thinking we do the right thing and change both sides. But for some unknown reason, the spline on the offside shaft just wouldn't line up after removal. So after hours of persuasion, everything was back on the car and torqued up.

Wenny, Ginge and Warren turned up late Friday to join in. But after moving Warren's car into the garage, it wouldn't start afterwards. An electical fault had killed his T6 2000 ECU which pushed his chances of competing Saturday out of the window After sourcing the electircal problem, Wenny made his way back from Anglesey to Newcastle of Saturday to see if the ECU could be saved, but unfortunately no luck. But on the other hand, Warren managed to source another ECU and had the car out performing at it's best on Sunday. Warren came 3rd Top marks for the Ford boys all round

Mark Kemp turned up in his awesome Evo, which had a few fumbles and cut the grass like a lawnmower at times with that huge bumper But it was great to see all teams in the shared garage helping each other out.

We even had the Help for Heroes folk over for some passenger rides and general banter. Great bunch of people working for such an amazing cause, it's just a shame injured soldiers need these types of charities since the government won't do their part

A few problems occured as expected, but it proved to be a true hollywood story with everything going wrong at the last minute but all resolved in time for Ronnie to win 1st place on Saturday.

A few more problems occured on the Sunday with a collapsed coilovers with leaking oil spilling on to his tyre, which almost caused Ronnie to flip his car when he had an off His bumper was heavily damaged and the coilover was adjusted to limit any further oil dependency from the shock itself. He carried on and still got 3rd place. The points all add up nicely in the long run

So all in all an awesome 4 days, proper team work and got the result. These sites are a great help for people like this, because problems can occur and unless you know the area you can't get jackshit to help the cause.
Doug, Dan, Chris, Barry and Ronnie are a right bunch of caaaaants but what a pleasure it was to work with an awesome team of lads that get the job done right! Met a few other lads like Jon Morris who needed a bit of help, but it’s that kind of event where everyone helps each other out

Back home...

....with a few more trophies

Roll on Snetterton!

Ah mate don't ask, Ronnie lost my prized Shaun the sheep around the track too

The bumper was a bit damaged, but Dan in the team can sort the material to add a new splitter. I think the lack of weight helped really to earn the 3rd place
