Default new to the site

hi folks, im new to the site and wandered if anyone could help. Ive recently bought a s2 rs turbo with efi conversion it is a wee bit tappy on idle although ive heard worse but its quite noisy at high revs. it has an uprated cam but unsure of the make and the previous owner said he changed the tappets but just wandering if it possable to put the wrong ones in for the cam it had. i just had it set up and got 164bhp at 9 psi so its producing power but i dont like to rev it as i dont like the noise at high revs. any help wud be appreciated.

very common on these engines, some of the causes are poor breathing bad oil circ, needs a oil change or teppets are simply goosed as most are made out of chocolate like the cams, 9 times out of 10 drop in some new lifters with a oil change and its sorted

not really only if the tappets are changed from hydraulic to adjustable, as for tappets being just done it means nothing as for one your trusting the sellers word, I bought a fiesta turbo just after christmas and seller told me it had a recent complete top end rebuild and mine sounded like a bag of spanners on tickover, bought new lifters from matt lewis for £45 its now as quiet as a mouse, check all the breathers etc too as they are known to block up which does not help, also check lobes on cam when changing tappets

It's always good practice to change both cam and lifters as your cam will eat your new lifters in no time. The cam will be work hardened by now and will eat the followers! May aswel check the cam for wear whilst you are in there!
