Default what a pooo day

my engine is in at field motorsport having a couple of bits done then being dynoed

i get a phone call yesterday morning from them, tom says he has taken my sump of so he can mount my c.p.s and there is little fragments of metal in there

further inspection shows that the shells have been obliterated
(not too bad just reground the crank)

i get down there and he has completly stripped the engine and it is like one of them house of horrors jobs

had the engine rebuilt by ATFORDS about 6 years ago and it was such a s@"t rebuild it was unreal;

they put standard pistons back in, machined the block for o rings, and then not put any in, charged me for a steel crank and used a standard one,standard head gasket,
there was 2mm difference in the valves from one side to the other

the list goes on

how it didnt blow when i was on the road i dont know as i was running 32lb through it

o well its a full rebuild now then with all the stuff that should of been in there in the first place plus a couple of others

Nothing like a bit of DIY - even if it goes wrong, you learn from your mistakes and it ends up cheaper in the long run! Not every firm is honest, but they'll all claim to be! I try to DIY as much as possible, so far I haven't let myself down. I have noticed though, that mechanics will generally always slag off others work, even if it was OK...I guess it gets them a better reputation coz some people believe it and spread it around.

I'm not havoing a go at any of the firms you mentioned, coz I dont know them - it's just a general observation.

If You Want Something Done Right, Do It Yourself!
