Focus st170 code P1381
Hi - I am trying to help a friend sort out his st170, and we keep getting the code P1381 coming up. The engine runs well and smoothly above about 2000 rpm., but will not idle very well, if at all. On the occasions that it does idle it runs really lumpy and sounds like it has really hot cams in it.
We have checked the cam timing several times, and we are confident that it is spot on. However, clearly there is a problem in that area, and we wonder how we can check if the variable cam timing pulley on the front of the inlet cam is working properly. We think the problem might be there, - or with the solenoid that controls it on the top of the cylinder head.
Really hope someone can help or advise. - Thanks.
