Default Master cylinder question

How much fluid should come out with a brake line disconnected from the cylinder and someone pushing the pedal?

Is it just a dribble? I know it doesn't take that much with hydraulics. It's just Iv got a new master cylinder and tried the above last night and not alot came out.

Normally it's quite alot, have you removed the top off the master cylinder, what are you trying to achieve?
