Suggest me a classic runabout.......
I want a runabout, just to get to work and back that is cheap to run and can classify for a classic insurance policy. (MK3 Escort, MK4 etc etc....)
Help me out please with your suggestions

I would say xr2 but they can eat the fuel up. I think i would go for a 1.1L mk2 fes instead great fun cheap as chips and if maintained well it,ll never let you down. My other cheap runabout which lasted me 7 years proud was an H plate mk2 orion. No rot to be seen and never ever once broke down or even hinted at the idea superb car that was and weirdly miss it big time.
Funny how the older lesser models can grow on you in the end

Classic insurance usually limits mileage. I can't do more than 5k a year.

Still stand by Scirocco. Reliable and solidly build with the correct maintenance, seems to escape the Golf "tax" so good value, won't lose money on it and seems to escape the "scenesters" more than most other VW's. Cool car IMO.

Check your policy details. Pretty sure that when I've had classic insurance in the past it doesn't cover commuting to work.

No thanks. When you do my shift pattern you don't want to spend an extra hour walking in and another walking home.

Triumph Herald. Can pick one up with Mot cheap enough, tax exempt and at 23 insurance cost me £140 including commuting. Works fine as a daily, actually better than leaving it just for sunny weekends.

This. Seriously, it's only 6 miles. If it's raining just wear a coat.
If it must be a car, then a mk1 fiesta?
