c20xe pistons on zetec rod query?
i have had the zetec rods machined out and fitted to the pistons
my query is once the rod is inside the piston it doesnt have really any sideways movement, and the machine shop seems to have heat sleeved the gudgeon pin into the rod so the piston will pivot on the gudgeon pin
any thoughts or suggestions
cheers

all sounds a bit odd ? the rod should slide along the pin but with no sideways (twisting) movement.. the pins are held in the pistons with clips. you should be able to take the clips out and slide the pin out?

Yes that's perfectly fine, as you are using standard oe stuff. Most car s come from factory like that. You only get fully floating when you buy aftermarket forged items.

its a snug fit and like i said no sideways float so if the crank journal is slightly off i thought it should compensate,
reading up it seems that the pin should be pressed into the rod and be a tight fit and let the piston pivot on the pin
does this sound right?

Sorry not fully clued up of the xe piston conversion, a lot of standard set ups are not fully floating. Was only going on past experience with other engines that there's usually one fixed point. If the machine shop do not normally do this type of specialist work they may have assumed the same and not machined the rod to be fully floating
