Default Mk4 Escort Early head on later block?

Can any one tell me if it's okay to put an early 81SM6090 XR2 Xr3 1600 head on a later 'Leanburn' engine? Or if there will be any adverse effects or alterations needed.
Many thanks.

I have put a hemi head on a lean burn bottom end before and ran it for a year. Went quite well actually as it is supposed to lower the compression ratio

It might though the head could be skimmed down (or use early pistons?) to raise the compression ratio again.
