Default MOT Help.....

Got my MOT coming up and have put RS2000 Recaros into my R reg Escort GTi, but because there are no multi-plugs on the recaros for the airbag system, the airbag light is constantly flashing, so my question is, with the new regulations will it fail on this and if so, what can I do to trick the system to thinking its all fine and dandy??

Airbags aren't part of the test just yet, it's being introduced later in the year.

You can add resistors in the pre-tensioner wiring to 'fool' the light if you want..

At the moment at worst you will only get an advisory for a non-functioning or faulty SRS/Airbag light

We have been instructed that the "new fail" items will become live "in the summer"

VOSA though have not stated which summer and at what part of the summer the new testable items will be introduced !

Same value as the resistance of your pre-tensioner.

tip- DON'T measure this with an ohm meter.
Theory is that the ohm meter puts voltage down the wire to measure the resistance of the component (gets it's power from it's internal 9v battery), which may be enough to be able to set off the air-bag/pre-tensioner.

Dont they come live from April/May ?

The additional rules came into force here on May 1st. Even the totally and utterly silly ones.

Unfortunately I got rid of the old seats when I put the recaros in and they are from an earlier car so they dont have the multiplug for the tensioner.... will try the resistors instead.

remove air bag fuse, its only gonna be a fail if the airbag light indicates a fault, if it doesn't light up it doesn't fail. Which to be honest is bloody stupid, but thats the way its gonna be.

They technically came into force on jan1st 2012 as a 3month probation period pass and advise for the new testable items untill april the 1st when it was going too all go live but they sent round a special notice saying they are extending the probation order due too some problem with tow bar electric test's and state too carry on advising on the new testable items untill further notice but they dont know when the new testable items will come into affect

But if the light doesn't come on then go off when you turn the ignition on, and you physically have no pre-tensioners, it will fail.

if it doesn't light up its pass and advise.

Only thing testable re pre tensioners is if the flag is showing, not the presence.

It was in matters of testing, I will see if I can find it at work and scan it. Also check I've 100% interpretated it correctly
