Default Focus diesel

Looking for a new runabout and have been looking at 2005/2006 focus diesels. Are they any good and what should I be worried about other than dmf and starter motor?

Had a low mileage 2006 2.0 TDCi a few years ago, pile of shit. I was running a 2.0 TDCi Mondeo at the same time and the focus struggled to get over 40mpg whereas the Mondy did 50+ all day long.
Focus developed a top end oil leak that Jennings couldn't (or wouldn't) sort. Rear arches went rusty within 3 years old (warranty job). Can't speak for the 1.8 but personally i'd have a Mondy any day, doesn't cost any more to buy or run.

What about Mazda 3's? The 2.0 sport looks a canny motor, my dad has a 1.6 ts and he's had no bother with it.

LOL which is actually a Focus, and uses the same engines, at least the petrols do, should think the Derv's are as well.

sister has the 1.6tdci, apprently unreliable but hers plugs away no bother and is up in the miles and not exactly pampered.

One is in the sale section that looks good priced motor for a run about.

From what I hear all modern derv's are troublesome, especially now with DPF's etc.

To be honest unless you are doing considerable mileage, then there is no benefit of having one as your not going to save any money, in fact probably loose money in repairing them!
