lol at build qaulity of a crisp packet ...... so was the 306 gti6 but makes it far more interesting knowing at high speed if you bin it you are going to die unless its caged up

go for the 1.6. Much more fun. Shorter gear ratio's, stiffer suspension etc. Much better all rounder than the 1.9.
Plus there is not a huge amount of difference performance wise.

I had the 309 1.9 gti and loved it! I remember as a young lad being used to xr3i's and picking up the pug for Ł400 at a local garage, I drove down the road, turned round and paid the man, it felt like a rocket lol!
My brother and I both had Mi16 205s, both had engine dramas eventually after years of proper abuse and neglect
My brother's spun a shell at the Ring, and mine did the same at Donington (the same day my Cossie also broke it's gearbox again at Donington
)
Think sadly the Mi16 lump is prone to it.
Great cars, really handle well. My car had the Mi16 box, my brother's I think was the 1.6, as his shot off up through the gears better than mine, but I could get my speedo off the end of the clock nicely
He did loads of work to his, but I think his best mod was the Quaife ATB diff he fitted, especially if track work is your plan.

You know you've got an unreliable car when you have to get towed 550 miles home from the Ring...... by a Cossie
My ropey Cossie dragging my brother's 205 home. That was a good fast run to catch the ferry, I think we may have nudged 90+

Mine got well used in a local sprint race on a go kart track:

Thought I had loads of good pics of the Pugs racing together, but can't find them. We used to drive round bumper to bumper at Combe and the marshalls kept telling us off for being too close
Great fun little cars!

Been looking at these lately aswell. Mate had an mi16 track car few years ago, handled lovely.
Few tasty ones on ebay at mo aswell. Spiky has a 205 gti and swears the GTI6 engine is better than mi16

you need a 1.9 gti turbo technics dimma, was one on pistonheads not long back for 4k! i loved my old 205's easy one of the best handling fwd cars ive ever driven used to love entering roundabouts at 80mph getting lift off oversteer, yanking the handbrake then flooring out of the roundabout sideways with smoke bellowing off the front wheels! never ever spun it either even tho id had it at 90 degrees a few times lol
how the fuck i didnt lose my license in one of my 205's i dont know proper hooligans car

Put a spanner in the works.
205 STDT! I think once I got a new car and settled with it I may get one for the weekend.
1.8TD with 80bhp. Full GTi kit, has a disgusting cream interior so you would have to fit a GTi one
BUT! They share the same engine mounts as the 1.9D, 1.9TD and 2.1TD found in other pugs. So you can imagine the potention with a little fettling!
