Default 3dr cossie fuelling problem help please

hi guys im having problems with the running of my car, car is std. Running really rough and stinking of fuel plugs black etc.
I have just taken off the throttle butterfly and found that it is swimming with fuel behind it, gasket soaking, soaking in the intake throat as well.
I have cleaned everything up, can anybody advise me i what i need to do, adjust check etc to rectify.
I do not have a manual. The throttle body has had some resto work previously so i know that things may not be correct, but where do i start as a base to check things.
any advice appreciated
thanks
Paul

Sounds like the fuel pressure regulators to me , sometimes fuel goes through the fac pipe . If so replace your regulator !

yeah sounds like the diaphram in the regulator has turned inside out or maybe blue water temp sender at the back of the head has gone down or the plug on the loom that plugs into that one..
But the way youve described it id go with the regulator first

I have been checking things for the last hour or two. its now chucking out black smoke on start and tickover, just drove it down the street and its also missing slightly when just on light load.
I will have a look at the regulator next

Yep the diaphragm goes in the FPR but isn't that common which is why it wasn't found quicker on my car - but then you have to remember they are mostly 26+ years old now

The problem is fuel going down the vacuum line back to the inlet

The process to rectify it is to change the FRP to start with then remove the inlet and clean out - new inlet gasket etc i did just for matter of course then flush the engine through with at least 8litres or 2 x complete oil changes with a couple of cheap filters to remove the oil/fuel from the engine - then fill up with good recommended oil and decent filter and your away again with an internally clean engine

Sounds like a big job but it's an afternoons work really
