That normally means the key isn't recognised.

Does he have a spare key to try, or has that already been done?

I had one (diesel) recently that wouldn't start/crank and it was the small black power hold relay (powers up ECU) failed in the underbonnet fusebox. I swapped relay for the one next to it that's marked fuel pump, to try it.

C1403 in this diagram.

Check all the fuses in both fuse boxes too.

I had the same problem on the colder mornings, mine is a 56 plate, i understand that the have different fuseboxes on different ages.in the fuse box under the bonnet there is a row of four small black relays,2 for lights 1 for fuel pump and 1 is the power up relay(r8),this was the one that caused the problem for me. Swap it with one of the light ones to try it.this is what i did and its gone ever since!!

Talking -----

I have a 2006 ford transit connect, had the ------ instead of the mileage, the van would not start or even make a sound. I knew it wasn't the battery because all the lights worked and I tried to jump start the van which did not work. After reading on here it could be the relay I changed relay (8) which looks like it has a pump picture on it with one of the lighting ones as suggested by milimwshajonti. It started first time so happy I punched the air, know i don't have to spend stupid money on stupid mechanics. After driving around a few shops I found found a relay for just over Ł5 at whoopee motor factors. (Cheaper than i thought) the only problem know is the code needs to be re entered into the radio and I seem to have lost it.....

Default Ford Connect wont start after head gasket

Hi
I changed the head gasket and the timing belt and timed the crank and cam up but did not remove the fuel pump. I primed the pump and have fuel coming to the injectors. No issues that i can tell with the immobiliser but it will crank and will not fire even on a tow. Any ideas ?

Hello to everyone in the forum! Had the same problem that @MichaelHarbour, and I didn't found why (I`ve checked cluster, wiring and ECU). So, the reply of @GVK. was absolutely effective!
The R8 relay was the problem! I've changed to try, but worked perfectly. I've bought a new relay and finish the job!

Having a night mare with 2003 van after 10 starts it doesn't start. The immobiliser light just flashes constantly, then I have to take it to local mechanic to reset the system

Ive bought an additional key and the same keeps happening. The other day we replaced the body control module Ł400 still not working won’t start again after 10 starts.

No, needs the van scanning for codes in engine ECU, and instrument cluster if applicable.

When your mechanic reset the system there should have been codes set.

If there is a flash code on the red immo light I can't remember what the codes mean these days. A google may help.
