Default TD engine 5-6cyl suggestions

Im in two minds what to do with my merc w114
its a complete car so im tempted to put it back on the road and tidy a few bits and then drive it until winter then sell on with occasional use.

But on the other hand i want to lower it and stick a 5-6cyl turbo diesel engine in and use it often and probably keep it longer.

Can anyone think of a decent 5-6cyl td (no common rail stuff) ideally just mechanical pump old school type.
only ones i can think are
Old VW LT
Diesel out of W123 or similar merc

I think an older Bosch pumped indirect 6 cylinder engine would be more suited to this sort of car. Would run vegtable oil too

Some early Audi's 2.5's were a 5 cyl and mostly mechanical. I think they shared the same bellhousing platform as the VAG 2.4td straight 6 used in old VAG's and Volvos which in itself could be another option.

Cant see any of them being overly cheap to buy though.

Isnt there an oldish Merc diesel option ?

Or maybe a Nissan of some sort ? Taxi etc ?

Ive a complete running 940td auto here sitting parked up. Probably work out way too much to buy and take home though

early 320cdi, but may be electrical nightmare.

VAG, sprinter and volvo 5 bangers are all from the same origins dependant on year

5 pot from volvo would be my choice but im 5 pot mad lol these regular do 250/300,000 miles without problems and are silky smooooooth
