Been made redundant and walked into another job so i have got a bit of cash to play with,
Got 10k to spend on a car and like the look of Astra vxr's or Possibly a Megane 225 Renault sport ltd edition
I thought about a Focus RS but i want the newest for the money really
Anyone had any experiance with either of these reliability wise?

Ummmmm
It will be my everyday car so reliability is my no:1 concern!
Not got time with racing for bonnet up antics every weekend like the Rs turbo days
Don't drive like a knob any more so standard power will be fine + The wife will drive it more than me
Jake i'm really not feeling the Focus love want something newer really but within the 10k budget

Drive one...
A night in the pub with Karl and I went and got one - he basically said it will be like your old RST but faster, more fun and well... just better.
And for not a lot of money he can make em go plenty quick.
Ł7k gets you a lot of car.
Shop around and Ł6k gets you a lot of car too.

I don't think I'd want a MK1 RS as a daily car to be honest.
I think I'd find an Impreza difficult to resist for Ł10k. Bet you'd get a nice one for that money. 4WD, four doors, big boot, reliable.
Sod having a bloody Astra over one of those.

10k I would be buying a nice E46 M3.
Know a fee people with VXRs, one loves them and thinks nothing could be better/quicker ever. The other has had no end of problems and has just traded it in saying he'll never buy another Vauxhall again. Couple of people I know that have had Meganes have both had a string of not serious but damn annoying problems

vxr's are good cars, handling is a bit iffy if you like to push it but as a everyday car there good, comfortable and ive not heard of anyone having reliabilty issue with them, only whe people have messed witht hem ahve they had issues, megane are just the ugliest hatch in the world ever and french electrics giv no end of trouble but do handle well, mk1 focus rs are as good if not slighty better than the astra due to the better handling but getting on a bit now and still strong money but if you look you can find a bargain. early vxr's are knocking Ł6k now and thats alot of car for your money.

I would stay away from the vauxhall. Paint is crap, engines dont last long and on top of that they are plagued by electrical gremlins.
If you spend 10k on a FRS.... then it's going to be a low miler that you wont want to be driving every day.
The renaults are a nice spec plus being turbo you can get them running serious power fairly easily. Plus you wont worry so much when you park it in the supermarket! Plus I think it's quite a lot of car for the money / age etc.
I would look to spend no more than about 8k on one though.
if you decide on any of these cars I would buy it privately from an owners club member. Join a couple and see what you like the look of. All the best cars are found on the forums imo.

Not sure about the vxr itself but that astra h (???) is a pile of shit car,I've been trying to help a couple of folk in work with their ones and they've both needed ecu's at a cost of a grand upwards which is poor IMO,one was an 08 reg!!!
Renault.guy in the unit next to my old one had one and it went through 2 window mechs, switches etc but no engine issues and was a quick car with superb handling and IMO looked pretty in blue.
That said it wasn't that old at the time, perhaps 3 years and mega low miles.
He also said it was dismal on petrol and heavy on tyres.
FRS,more a weekend car I would say although they are reliable,I'd just be afraid of leaving it anywhere personally, people trying to steal it etc.
For me,I'd go focus St,and this is a car I'm seriously considering myself in the future.
Strong Volvo lump, great chassis, infinitely tuneable/styleable but still a pretty looking car out of the factory and popular enough to blend in nicely in a carpark etc and not attract your local TWOCers!!!
Only issue is fuel consumption and if that's not an issue then I'll see all of the above and raise it to a nice impreza, the rest don't even get a look in compared to one, does all of the above but more reliable, better handling, more tuneable and IMO better looking.
Don't know much about the big audi mentioned but they don't make shit cars so that's worth considering too.
Tough descisions young man!!!

He claims he wont ever be back in the vauxhall, as the Mazda impresses him so much. Abolutely loves it. Cracker car!!

a mate of mine had a vx-r burgerking edition. It had 3 new heads, 4 turbo's and 3 gearbox's all under warranty. All within 12 months too. enough said on that one. i know people who have owned meganes and liked them, seem a good car, if you are Stevie Wonder.
