Yeah, were they based on the super touring's of something?
Not a bad looking car, for a vectra, slow as hell though.

Used to work at a vauxhall dealer that looked after 2 of these regularly... They were a fore-runner to the GSi iirc... Some of the ST vectras were nice too
And as Chip quite rightly says they weren't very fast!

deffo no connection between the two, the MSD used by vauxhaul prepared race and rally cars and went bust a few years ago after prepping hyundai WRC cars IIRC

The were 2.5 V6 weren't they? Just over 190bhp? About as quick as an ST200 Mondeo, so about right for the competition?

Or am I thinking of something else?

Yes 2.5 V6 and slow as fuck.My ST24 was quicker than the Vectra gsi i had a few years later.

It was a nice looking car just slug slow for what it was meant to be.

My mate had one that was chipped and 3.0 cams and whatever else they do to them,it was a different car altogether and the way it should have been from the factory i thought.

Everyone will realise one day that fords are a better car lol
I think MSD took the vectra SRi 2.5 V6 and remapped it and changed the cams and some other bits to make it circa 190bhp... The GSi is alot better to drive than the SRi V6, but still not quick by any means, i would think an ST24/ST200 would easily show 1 a clean set of heels.

The ST200 already DID have 3.0 cams from the factory (LSD too IIRC)

Made them better, enough to see off an ST24 mondeo I would think although never seen that theory tested, but still not massively quick.

The ST3000 had a modified 3.0 engine and made 230bhp+

I thought the MSD vectra was 2.6?

My dads neighbour recently bought one for Ł500. Though he had a bargin however it keeps going into limp mode.

Earlier ones were 2.5 then there was the face lift 2.5 before they became 2.6

Yeah the GSi are less power again.

Still a nice car though if you just want a big comfy car and arent too fussed about speed.

Its clarkson though and at that point he just thought it was really funny to slag vauxhall off all the time, so probably not exactly an unbiased view.

He's entertaining but i wouldnt take too much notice of him personally.

IIRC he was complementary to about it until it came to the speed/power - he summed it up by saying it needed more power. To be fair he wasnt wrong.

Agreed though, he reviews cars for entertainment purposes only!

How bizzarre, V6 Vectras came up on another forum and some lad was making out like they were Ferrari killers, didn't go down well when I said I didn't think they were that quick at all.

Clarkson on the MSD Vectra if of interest

I have a 2.6 V6 SRi as my daily runner and I honestly think it's pretty good for what it is... and nothing else.

I didn't expect it to be a ferrari... I just expected it to be a V6 Vectra.
