Has any of the banjo bolts got filters in them that could be blocked.Failing that forte use to do a power steering treatment which has to be used to be believed, well worth a try if still available.

You checked the knuckle under the turbo?these dry up with the heat and go really stiff,I drove 1 with a knackered knuckle and it felt very strange,it was sometimes light then went tight, matter of fact I've drove 2 with the same fault and a new joint cured it both times.

was just about to say to try the uj from column to rack, they give a horrible feeling as if the car wants to carry on steering itself and doesnt return properly

The steering on my 2wd has been stiff since building it up last year. What is the difference between the 2wd setup and 4wd setup?? I ask because mines a 2wd, but someone has fitted a 4x4 adjustable steering column in the past and im wondering if its stiff due to a compatibility with the steering joint. Mine has a rubber donut in the middle of the UV joint.

It's easy to check, undo the 10mm bolt on the knuckle where it clamps onto the column and it will come free so you can move it by hand,if you can't move it it's fooked.

scrap it lol

sounds like an air lock, or rack knackered, did you fit a reconned rack or a second hand one?

and what was the reason you changed the rack

Thanks Rich fitted a new pump and a known working 2nd hand rack. I replaced the p/s reservoir with a crackle one and after re-fitting the power steering was stiff.

It's strange how it's happened since you've done the rack which doesn't point toward the uj. But the problem sounds like a uj
