Default Rear crank oil seal

Mines been weeping for a while and im going to replace it at the weekend,
i seem to remeber doing a friends one some years back and using a "fitting tool" and taping the crank up so the seal slides on nicely.

Am i imagining this to be more complicated than it is?

I think you've got the wrong end of the crank Roger, you're supposed to tape up the crank when fitting a new oil pump to ease getting the seal over the step in it.

But if you're just changing the seal at the flywheel end it's just whip off flywheel and replace the seal in the holder. Give it plenty of grease though, dont want it folding up as you push it in.

There is a special Ford tool for fitting it but IME there's no need, everytime I've done one it's gone on with no probs.
Can't help with the size though mate sorry!

Hi guys. Still can't get my sump sealed, have tried everything. It only leaks when hot and oil is thin. I'm starting to think it's the rear crankseal but it really shouldn't as have just done a full engine rebuild. The oil is running down the edge of the sump at the rear of the engine. If it was the crankseal would there be oil running down the sump or would it run down the back of gearbox plate. Some advice would be really great guys before I pull the engine out tomorrow.
