Default Painting an intercooler??

Guys, is there any benefits for painting and intercooler matt black?

Would this aid cooling or would the extra paint hamper its efficiency?

Painting it black would Radiate heat better but the paint would also insulate the cooler.

Only ever painter a logo on the cooler for asthetic reasons.

Would painting it black work? Think we need Myth busters to test in a LAB environment?

Cooling air thro' an intercooler is relying on heat transfer across the surface.
If the paint is more of an insulator / bad conductor than the aluminium then painting would make it less efficient.

If applying paint made them more efficient then they'd most likely come painted from new.

If you want to go to the Mythbuster level of analysis, then applying paint will reduce the gap that the air flows thro' by a few microns meaning less air available for heat transfer.

painting black is a good way to keep things subtle. my turbo base model has a huge fmic is bare alloy which looks obvious as the bumper has a section missing. im looking at ways to hide it better and refit a good std bumper. have have problems with heat in traffic but i reckon some decent fan(s) setup will solve this.

So with some decent fan set up it should work effectively?

And you can buy them in black, does it make that much difference? Did you notice any difference after you did yours Mat?
Was tempted to do mine a while back, but couldn't be arsed with taking it off!
