on two seperate occasions ive seen two civics, both with nice wheels, noisy exhaust ect so im assuming there tuned aswell. both cars have lumpy idle, as if the throttle is been blipped when on a closed throttle. why is this? im assuming its a fucked sensor but wondered, isd this a crappy ''trend' or modification? or just a coincidance that both ponified civics ive seen have the low speed running issue?

i know the vtec is a capable lump, what sort of power from a n/a 2.0?? a lad near me knows of a local one and claims 300hp. (thats with the running/setup issue i mentioned)lol. having said that, he is a renowned bullshitter so i dont beleive it for one second. he also has a ''mate with a golf 600hp'' even though its an auto!!! id like to put a figure to him to make him look a cunt in front of his mates. that way he might stop asking how much hp my escort makes and how fast ive had from it every time im cleaning/fucking about with the car. hes 19 btw so im not been a rotten bastard. his dad is equally full of shit.
Right.
The K20 in the EP3 Civic is just under 200bhp, around 193 IIRC, however in the DC5 Integra, it's more like 216.
Very capable cars even in standard trim, especially with someone that knows how to drive a VTEC car properly.
My mates mate, has fitted some "VTEC killers" in his DC5, he claims 260, but I'm not sure. It sounds like a fucking motorbike though

I recently went out in a friends DC2. Was really good fun in the twisty's. I'm just not a fan of having to ring a cars neck to get it to do anything.

They're very much an aquired taste!
just bought the dc5 integra type r and i must say i absolutely love it !!
they are 2l with 220bhp and go pretty damn hard. as for torque the k20a engines have pretty good torque actually.
Haven't driven it much lately, just from dover to the boat and from calais to belgium about 320 kilometers in total. Has to go trough homologation first.. takes at least 3 months
Vtec killers are cams that cause the vtec to be on all the time causing a rough idle. and also giving it absolute shit torque on lower revs, but its for racing purpose.
Little video on a b18c

300 bhp is do able na,
You can turbo a stock b18c4 ( came in the shit rover 400 shape civics) to 400bhp on a stock bottom end.
Any one who says there shut engines is in denial lol.

they are brilliant engines, especially when you consider they are all run in within the factory with fresh oil flowing through continuously.
but when they go bang, they go big time.

yep, i saw a video of one of their factories, just lines of engines running in at various loads/revs.
i don't know of any other manufacturer doing that for a road car anyhow.

The K20a engines in typer are prone to sticky ISCV which causes it idle like this. If it had been cammed then the injectors would have been uprated and you would have heard these as it sounds like tappets
However being it is a VTEC engine I am not convinced.
A VTEC has two sets of cam profiles, so not only do you gain power but don't lose drive ability on the "Around town" cam so to speak, i.e. below 6K RPM.
So I should think you would change the "VTEC yo" cam when tuning.
You can get something called a "VTEC controller" which changes the engine speed when the VTEC activation occurs, as to whether this actually has any gains in the real world I would not know.
Lovely engines and great engineering, I have friends who own DC2'S, I am also a fan of the EP3 CTR, although I don't think I would buy one personally, only as I am into older cars.

I wouldn't have thought there is a lot of scope for improvement without going down the FI route.

they can make 300bhp, not the most smooth driving car though, all the power is up the revs.
cool system though, totally unique compared to the variable valve timing setups you can get, would be cool if both systems were coupled together.

Vtec killer cams have only one profile, on the normal outer two lobes, and the vtec lobe is deleted so there is not any vtec anymore.
300bhp N/A is pretty straightforward for a K20, just a matter of spending some money on decent bits but been done plenty of times so not hard to replicate, bit like getting 600bhp from a YB I guess you would say.
