Default can you make a s2 rst handle aswell/better as a 306 gti-6?

i took my brothers pug 306 gti-6 on donnington park last sunday and the handling was great i could steer round corners using the throttle! infact round almost all bends i could keep my foot welded to the floor reving to 7300 rpm and was great 4 wheel drifting

i have just bought a s2 rst and not even got to drive it yet because of the 2.1 ZT conversion so im after some tips on suspension and brakes so i cam cane the ass off the gti-6

nearly forgot a stg2 bernie box is en route

Hmmmm! Tough 1. If you had asked will it be possible to lap quicker Id have said Yup with a good suspension setup.

The Chasis on the 306 is far Far superior, add the advantages of powersteering and you have a car that responds beautiflly on track as you know!

The seriously handle well, my m8's got one and goes's round roundabouts at speeds i'd never contemplate but it handles so well, even on 17"'s and standard suspension.

Just don't try and turn round in a tight road, they got a proper shit turning circle.

The other thing with them is 1st, 2nd and 3rd are long ratio'd, then it get's well short up to 6th

As Andy said, if you spend a fair bit on suspension you will improve it alot!! And becaus eyou can add a lot more power to a S2 you will be able to lap quick. however on the corners the 306 will aslways have the edge as its just awsome in the handling stakes!! the only other car to impress me like for an every day car was a Focus

i got a 306TD and have had so much fun in it! even with cheapeo tyers (Ł21)

hehe it was propper fun and he payed as much for the car as me ZT lump did alone not including the bits tha bolts on to it

i may in a couple of years buy one and sell the s2 and go throttle bodie route! aparently you can get 220 hp without head work ! and rev at silly amounts of revs

i cant beleve i was chasing a scoob round the bends sideways

oh yeah forgot to say we blew the bottom end up but another lump coming with 30k on it for 350 quid

not good idea to bounce off the limiter all day whitch is quite high

Quick Rack on the ERST, lower front and stiffer rear suspension will help a little. Poly bushes all round. Half the decent feel comes from a torsion bar rear end. Having said that Escorts have (sort of) independent rear suspension (ala a cruder Focus style) so Im sure something can be done to help it out.

Get on the blower to Zoo or somebody who does the race cars in the Ford series. It wont be comparible to the Pug but it will be a better job.

Why can the French really make decent handling cars?

Ask the Ferrari driver who got blue flagged at the Beds track day for holding me up so he had to let me past

cool i have a 2.1 ZT 130ps cams with a t34 and 360 thrust baring and omex being removed form the 2L xr2i im rearly hope its not too laggy for every day use driving the rs home after buying it was fooking slow!

so cliff can you slay scoobies in that thing ? i would think when you drive a rs there always trying it on

the frogs can corner but seem to make engines that dont have much torque

my 2.0 fiesta with omex whips it off the lights because of the grunt but the gti likes to be wound up a bit like a honda engine so can bog down a bit if you dont rev it alot and slip the clutch slightly

anyway what ideas can you lot come up with to make a s2 go round corners

and are strut braces there to look good ?

So far in my victim list I have raced and won against the following:
A Porsche Boxster, Jag Xk8 and a Jap spec Subaru Impreza.
Also the Ferrari 348 on track at Bedford.

My car is stripped and caged, Avo coilovers on the front , Bilstein coilovers on the rear, adjustable track control arms and a full corner weighting from Field Motorsport make the car handle oustandingly compared to the bag of shite it used to handle like. I don't have any strut braces but a rear one is being made up for me at the moment

yes. u need the geometry sorting really. Rear parrallel arms to stop the back wheels steering, adjustable tca's to bring the camber to what it should be, and a set of coilovers and u have a very sorted car. Dont forget, it's light, and that is the sole biggert advantage u can have.

well i hope mine should give a good few cars a good run for their money on handling side of things:

MEF rear parallel link arm
bilstein coilovers all round (eventually but will have konis on front for a while)
Adjustable track control arms
fully polybushed
front strut brace
possible rear strut brace on track days (otherwise install will get in the way)
stage 2 bernie box
mappable boost to help with wheelspinning through corners in lower gears
and a complete geometry setup from zoo when the car is on the road in full attack mode

I quite satisfied with how mine handles. It is a little improved from standard though.

I can get it to pull hard out of corners. They pull really well with a Quaife ATB in, which is a future purchase for me.

gawd on foaming around the mouth because the bernie box comes with the diff

probably have an advantage with the 2.1 turbo and a Quaife ATB without fiddling with the suspension

the car looks lowerd -40 tho but cant find owt on the recipts that came with the car

mr viper...zoo want different amounts for setting up suspension...it also depends if your suspension can be setup...i.e there will be a different charge for different things needing setup...all depends how adjustable you have made your suspension...if you have a look at their website it gives details there

what spec ZT are you going for mate? PM me if you like

270ish is the limit of the standard rods...i wouldnt use the kometic headgasket...get a focus 2000 headgasket as its multilayered and ALOT cheaper

hope to see you on track one day! you'll probably eat me alive though as ive never been on track before so wont know the limits etc of my car

Peugeots handle like fook!!

I've had a 205Gti, a 405Mi16 and just aquired a 106xs for a runabout.

On a twisty road they are ALL faster than the Cossie! - in fact in comparison I cant believe how bad the Sapphire handles!!!!! (With Koni adjustables)

It might go like a Cosworth - but it still handles like a Sierra!

It would cost a fortune to make a modified Ford handle like a standard Pug!

Totaly agree about the Saff cossies handling like hot jelly round Bedford i was being held up badly buy slow ass Saff Cossies snking and sliding round the corners

As for making a Ford handle, i think you can make them much better with just suspension, poly bushes and the right tyres for the car

Like you Cliff S1 I'm going to be spending some wedge on sorted handling as that was were your car showed mine up at Bedford. Next I shall sort my faulty brakes as it couldn't have been my fault I kept my foot on the wrong pedal at the end of the long straight

Simple answer is no.

I reckon I'd absolutely kill my cossie round somewhere like Donnington our old 306 GTi6.

The chassis is so good, and it has the perfect amount of power for a FWD car, that you can carry sooooooooo much corner speed.

Christ, even a 205 would push most S2s round. My brother's old 205 rally car in tarmac spec would anhialite a S2 similarly specced..

But get behind one with a decent driver in it and it becomes more of a challenge
