Default Coolant sensor (escos style)

Right lads

Can anyone tell me how I can check if my coolant sensor works. I have the normal focus one but also a second one in the thermostat housing where the pectel takes its read from. This one has a slight leak and I was wondering how u could check if it works. My typical mpg is 25 but I just got 29.5mpg having checked and cleaned the injector wiring and unplugged this. The car is more reluctant to start before it does, seems less laggy on boost and quiter cruising at 70mph (3000rpm in 5th) but doesn't seem to boost as hard.

Does it have just one wire?

It's very hard to do if not impossible, as you need to know the temp vs resistance scale to test accurately.

No mate 2 wires.

When cold car won't start without sensor in and keeps stalling when it does start. So am thinking sensor is sending a signal.

The same principle applies though (as with any Thermistor) you need to know the correct scale, thats if is one and not a switch, more below.

Are you sure thats not used to activate the cooling fans?

As normally a standard Foci uses the "NTC" sender for a temperature reference.

I guess you have EEC management as well as Pectel?

Yeah the pectel is a piggyback set up and the sensor is 100% for the pectel for the coolant temp. I think I may just change it anyway so I know it's good since am selling the car and least it'll have a good seal.
