Ford/Lotus Engine
A riend of mine has asked me to find try and find some info on an engine he has been offered
It Came out of a Escort MK1 rally car not a twin cam though and has L701 stamped on the block and a 6 bolt crank its a twin cam with a pair of 40's on it
Would this have been an original Ford engine possibly from an RS1600 or would it be a from an old Lotus
Any help appreciated
Cheers

Lots of info here too - http://lotus-cortina.com/library/block/blocks.htm
According to Dave Bean Engineering, the 701 block was used on non-crossflow engines. It was sold by Ford as a "service replacement" for the "116E" 1500 (1498cc) engine in 1971, but an "L" on the left side (the "L" in "0L28 ? )would indicate that it began life as a Lotus twin cam engine. The Cosworth BDA used a 711M block.
According to an online Lotus article, these blocks may be in fairly high demand for Lotus TC owners, since they were even less common than the Cortina and "Uprated" engines used in FF1600s, and have been out of production at least as long.
