Default Diesel remap/plug in boxes on eBay.

Been looking at getting my Renault Trafic remapped & came across these chip/remap boxes that connect up under the bonnet, has anyone had any experience with these as I've never seen nor heard of them before!

Looked through the feedback of some of the companies selling them & they was very positive, says it will take my 115bhp van to 143bhp!

Always worth doing abit of research when it comes to things like this.

J.

they usually either plug into the airflow meter and give a false signal to the ecu causing unmetered amounts of fuel to be added or plug into the fuel pressure switch and again lie to the ecu causing increased pressure, so either way you will possibly get a slight performance increase but you will probably have unsafe fuelling
you are far better with a proper remap
and also to add my mate had a similar thing on his merc vito and it constantley caused his van to cut out and would only restart after disconnecting the tuning box

look on motorsport-developments website and he has a section about this sort of stuff.

MSD do also sell these sort of boxes IIRC so its not a case that it's 100% bad idea 100% of the time

but with a modern car that can be remapped there's no reason NOT to do it properly IMHO

i'd go for a remap over a tuning box any day of the week! I'm not a fan of tuning boxes. Would never consider ever fitting 1 on a car or van of mine.

I do remapping as part of my business so I can do my own cars for free anyways!
