As titeled can anyone tell me what the legal limit is for tinting all the windows in your car obv except the windscreen.

was thinking about getting the saph redone but i would like it pritty much black

anyone been pulled over for having there window tint too excessive

30% light block

this is including the origional tint in the glass, sometimes even light smoke can fail with STD tint also on the fronts so be careful.

only way to test is with light machine, nice traffic cops will check it for you if there alright, get the tinting company to give you an off cut and tick it on the glass to test

also, any imperfections in the glass are shown up MASSIVLY i.e scratches and look shit, did a lot with a subaru specialist and they are terrivle for scratched glass

 

iirc the back and rear sides have no limit, front sides must transmit 75%.

 

as said above but remember most modern cars may have pre-tinted glass and may put some light tints over the legal limits, no tint is aloud on the windscreen in the field of view or wipers zone,

i have 50% in the rear and rear sides while having 25% but the st has about 10% in the glass
its not so dark that i get pulled even though i could if the get funny and the 2 colors don't look odd, (i think to go black on the back and a light tint on the front looks odd)
could try black rear, dark rear-sides, and med/light fronts,
light colored cars, and dark interiors can make the kits look darker,

if you do get pulled by police and they don't like Ur tint they can ask you to have them checked/and removed, make you remove them on the road, if they are bad and classed as dangerous a fine and may impound the car, not sure if they can give points yet?

Its simple, don't do it, it looks shit!

 

The simple answer is - whatever you like on the rear, and rear side, and nothing on the front side.

You 'can' get away with a light tint on the front sides - just don't go too dark.

 

What ever you like on the rear, and rear side windows,

The fronts must pass 70% light, so you are allowed up to a 30% tint. Be aware most factory tints that i have tested are already around 25% so even adding a 10% tint to most cars will make them illegal!

 

Its something to do with the AS2 that is already at the limit isnt it?

On my old focus st170 I had limo on the back. Dark smoke on the front and a tinted sun strip on the screen. Looked brilliant but a bastard to drive at night! I had to buy tiny wipers too for my mot.

 

Mines pretty dark on the M3 think the rear is 50% and the fronts 25 or 30%

fiddy what shade of tint did you have in the rear?

as seen above as you thint the rear it also makes the front slightly darker,
(i often think that limmo black is only good on black cars)

 

 

Tbh mate I don't know, it was done before I got the car, but I know the previous owner, and when he got it done, he got the darkest they had, whatever that is lol

If you do get stopped and made to remove the front door tint. Its not that hard to redo and can get the kits £40 from eBay but the back window can be a bitch

 

and they can be a bitch to fit if you get any air bubbles in

 

Just to let people know, I got stop by an unmarked car Yesterday (Ludgershall/Tidworth, Wiltshire) and was fined £30 fixed pently for my Tints. This was for my front side windows on my Mk5 Fiesta ZS, the device they used said my Front window had the Ford standard 85% tint and my side tints came up 35% on the device.

My brother inlaw John has dan's@fastfords Zetec-S Mondeo and they are lot darker than mine but Dan quoted them in the mag being 70%, I've advise John he best remove them but that upto to him.

Mine were on the car were on the car when I brought it about 4 years ago, and I was advised they were legal.

So my advise is Don't bother with tinting the front side windows, unless you like give the Police £30 every time they stop you.

 

Thought it was £60 fixed penalty tickets
