Default volvo S70 t5; very surprised how quick!

picked up a beauty yesterday, R reg volvo s70 t5.

its done 185k and you would never know it, its an auto which probably helps but the thing drives like its done 50k, so well built.

the best bit about it was how quick it is, its a 2.3l turbo and the thing flies, put it in sport mode and it pulls so well, and that engine sounds gorgeous! not sure what power they are but got to be over 200hp?

im half tempted to keep the thing

I can't remember how powerful the S70 was. I don't know if it was any more than the 850 T-5, and they were 225bhp.

I loved my 850. Had a manual boost controller fitted and it was a flier!

I bought a x reg v70 t5 yesterday, the thing flies! 250bhp through the front wheels is a bit too much for it though.

Mine has got 135k on it and it's as tight as anything, the only trouble is it's way too quiet, I want to hear the 5 cylinder noise!

Gavin.

Quite a bit of tuning kit out there I think. I'd quite like to try one of the later model V70s out. My 850 had an open filter and the recirculating valve blocked off and it sound decent

They're not great Grant Best I managed out of my 850 auto was 36mpg, driving like miss daisy over distance. Apparently some remaps can bump that up a little though. If you drive it fairly quickly (which is hard to avoid) it drops to around 15ish. I could get mine to sit around the low to mid 20s mostly though.

I see... that's a little worse than I expected.

Plus you'll more than likely have no option but to drop V-Power/SUL into it if you slip a cheeky remap on there too.

After the first day owning it I had averaged 14 mpg.

Been out in it today and other than a few times I have taken it really steady and it's up to about 22 mpg. 70ish on the motorway gives about 28-30mpg.

I just want mine to make a bit more noise, I love the old Audi quattros and I was hoping the Volvo would sound the same.

Gavin.

I remember back in the day when I worked for a superchips dealer and we did a chip on a v70 t5 estate and it was an animal afterwards

Depends how it's mapped I think. There's quite a few options so I don't think super would be essential. Mine certainly never got it!

All depends how you drive I guess. If you're sensible, they're ok for a big engined, turbo car. If you're not, they're not

Definitely one of the best noises going though. I went in one with a remap, induction, exhaust etc, and it sounded absolutely epic to be honest, and was doing quarters in the 13s

My Dad's V50 T5 scared the crap out of me! I went to overtake someone forgetting im driving a 230bhp FWD estate car. Car infront was doing 35 in a 60, droped into 2nd, stuck my foot down and I almost gave myself a heart attack. The car just rears, you here the turbo whine, the engine growls and your sucked into tommorow!
My Dad mainly does motorway driving, gets a good 28mpg out of it!
But thats the more modern 2.5 low boost engine.

The older ones were 2.3's with higher boost.

When i had my 850R with turbo back system, rica remap and bsr air filter it sounded awesome, chatted like hell and licked flames out on over run.
I used to average about 18mpg but ive got a very heavy right foot and loved having a play with things in it.

Still to this day one of my all time favourite cars and ive had more than enough cars over the years

They are cracking cars, ive just sold a 52 plate v70 t5 with 119k and that drove as if it was brand new, and in p/x took a v70 on a R with 165k and to be fair that drives spot on too, goes really well....
