Default Whats the deal with Fords part prices!?

Have they always been so expensive?

Guy came into the garage early this week with a Focus ST3. A few months back the passenger CV was making a funny noise he said. Thats now stopped but the drivers sides doing it. Can't find CV joints separate anywhere so he wants 2 new drive shafts. Rang Ford

Drivers Driveshaft £548 Plus Vat
Passenger Driveshaft £429 Plus Vat

Wtf over 1K for driveshafts! Are they made of gold

Gen parts are always silly money when the cars fairly new. I had to buy a tyre pressure monitor retaining nut (bit that keeps the valve bolted into the rim) from ford last week for a customer and it was £36 + vat!!
Reckon Remy or AMK would recon - return those shafts for less than 300 notes though

We rang ces beforehand and they said dealer only, so its either he coughs up a grand, suffers with the noise or we'll send them off for recon

Recon I'd say. I couldn't justify 1K just for shafts

What noise are they making? Is it like a clicking sound? If so it's very common on the ST, it's the bolts that screw in to the end of the shafts (where the hub nut would normally be). There is an uprated bolt available from Ford to cure this problem.

The same bolt is also available from Volvo, they are a bit cheaper, I'm unsure on part numbers though...

fordpartsuk tend to undercut main dealer prices by at least 10% if not more, of course this mainly effects non trade buyers and they are curently selling set of 4 new MK2 FRS alloys for £320 and in a few years time they will be on ebay for £1k like diamand cut RS7s

I wanted some new bleed nipple / screws for my rear drims on my Fiesta RST £3.20 They are mild steel and suffer from the dreaded tin worm too! I think my next set will either be titainium or marine stainless.....

I doubt they cost more than 10p to make! - big business and commodity prices are going through the roof.

Last May I needed a MPV as family came over from abroad for a month, so tried to hire one... cheapist quote £780! so I bought one for £1310 spent some time fixing door handles and £35 on new brake pads £30 on insurance, then sold it for £950! Saving me £355... Just goes to show do it your self use, small businesses and you save a fortune!

All motor factors say they are dealer only, plus Euro are shite they take about 4 hours to deliver because all the drivers are women. Anyone elses branch only take on women for delivery drivers whilst on the subject?

Always ask for ford discount,9/10 they just ask your FIN number, which can be pretty much any 5/6 digit number.
I'm still using mine 4 years after I left!!!
Or,if you know someone who works in a ford/landrover/jag factory just ask them for thief card.
Most places will knock 20% off if you say your trade, had one place try it on when I had my business so I went elsewhere.never got asked for any proof at all.

Yeh the prices are just silly.

I was fixing a ford ranger at work. I replaced the front grill and radiator and the cost was nearly a grand.

On the positive side prices of ford wiper blades have dropped dramaticly over the last few weeks!

But ford prices are crazy.

Priced up power steering pipes for a customer this week, the two pipes that go from the rack around the bay clockwise and both have a union under the battery tray area (mk4 fiesta) each pipe is no more than a metre long with a union on the end, one was £120 the other £130 + the rubber mounting which was £40. + the vat.

With the fitting and the fluid etc a job thats near £400. on a car essentially worth scrap value. well done ford, thats another ford off the road and guess what, her next car wont be a ford

re the noise on the st, try removing the shaft from the hub and put some loctite on the splines see if that cures the noise as some of them have play between on the splines which causes a noise when taking up drive.

On a similair note, fwd transit shafts are even more expensive
