Default what fast estate

i have narrow a few down

audi s4/s6 4.2 v8. is number 1 at the moment

audi rs6. will be stretching the budget a bit and mpg averages about 14mpg so i hear.

hawkeye impreza wagon.

if anyone owns or have driven the above any input would be greatly recieved.

i need to space for a baby and 2 dogs but i also want something i can have a bit of fun in on my own. something that will cruise up the motorway loaded and give me a huge smile when i want as i seem to swaping cars way too often lately and can see a pattern emerging, fun practical fun practical fun and so on.

here a history of my last cars over the last couple years

280bhp celica gt4 carlos edition
mondeo ghia x
mg zr160
rangrover p38
360bhp evo 4
08 focus zetec s
and now a merc ml270

will be looking to spend under 8500 which is about what i expect to get for the merc.

They can be had for less than 4k and have 275bhp.

Audi all day long, wont get an RS4 for that money, if you do i wouldnt wanna fix it

Facelift B5 S4 1999/2001 are massively underrated.

MG260 (terribly slow though belive it or not!)
AMG`s drop cash like something not right

Volvo`s, riddled with problems IMO from petrol and diesel

M5 V8 mmmmmmmmmm

Stagea RS4, odd but worth thinking about maby?!

just my 2p worth
Sean.

And the E34.

You can get a straight 6 M5 Touring or a V10, but not a V8

265bhp from the box, few choice bits and you have a 400bhp family wagon that looks nice and understated

everyone was warning me recently that although 02/03 plate rs6's can be had for your budget thet would be bottom end money for one.
an s6 would be a safer bet at that price.

They are meant to eat gearboxes though and they aren't cheap to replace! Why not the rs4?

They were less than happy with the rear suspension on the prototype E39 Touring and that's meant to be one of the main reasons why it went no further.

on the BMW side you've got the E61 and E39 5 series in estate guise.

M5 is obviously way over budget but you can get a 530i or 540i which are quick enough to have a bit of fun in.

i bought a 530d myself after a decade of owning fast cars and it's quick enough to enjoy. that's only 200bhp!

I have a v70 t5 for my work bus, top spec model with 275bhp and I paid £1000 for it a year ago. All I've put in it is fuel! And it goes like a train
