They stopped being really interesting when GM took over I reckon, was out of the hands of the engineers and into the hands of the accountants at that point!

Sad sight to see them all go really, they have been kept nice till now when someone will buy one put it in a field and will never sell it till its rotted away then want mega money for it
Well, you say that, but actually, Saab was reasonable for a lot of innovations or made a lot of things standard on their cars that are now common on every car made today.
They were the first to fit seatbelts as standard in 1958, other manufactures didn't catch up until a lot later!
In the 70's They were the first to fit headlamp washer/wipers, heated seats, turbo wastegates, pollen filters, and the first turbo control systems (knock sensors ect).
In the 80's they were the first to introduce asbestos free brakes, 16 valve turbo engines, and direct ignition systems.
So while their cars were never anything amazing, they added a lot to the industry.
